MY MAKEUP FAVOURITES
I have what I thought was a very simple makeup routine until I started picking up all of my essentials so I could have a makeup bag to leave in London. I realised that for my day to day makeup I use 12 products (excluding skin care!) and I honestly don’t ever feel like I’m wearing much makeup at all.
When I counted them up, it felt a bit excessive but I’ve found a few products that I’ve been using for ages now and always go back to. Plus, it only takes me 5 minutes and 40 seconds to put my makeup on in the morning. Yes, I timed it.
I thought I’d share my 12 makeup favourites with you today that are light on my skin, don’t take long to apply, don’t require any fancy brushes and just leave me feeling fresh-faced!
NARS Hydrating Glow Tint. Colour: medium. This is the perfect light summer foundation. It’s more like a mousse than a foundation really as it provides very little coverage but evens out your skin tone and is easy to apply with just your fingertips.
NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer. Colour: Light 3 Honey. This concealer provides a little more coverage for my puff eye-bags, redness around the nose and the occasional spot that needs covering up. I also apply this with my fingers and then blend with a damp beauty blender to stop it looking cakey.
NARS Liquid Blush. Colour: Orgasm. I used the NARS powder blush for ages but then tried this out and I actually really like using a liquid blush. I find it blends into the skin better and it hardly looks like you’re wearing any makeup at all.
MAC Eye Base. This one is for any of you whose eye makeup typically ends up under your eyes by the end of the day. I use the tiniest bit of the eye base on my lids to help the eyeliner (or any eye makeup) stay put.
L’Oréal Superliner. I am pretty rubbish at putting on eyeliner but I have finally found a combination that works for me! I start with this liquid liner to outline the shape that I want. I use this as it’s easy to remove if I mess up (which happens every time I do my left eye) and the pen tip is a lot more stable that a brush.
MAC Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. I then use this liner which has a very thin paint brush applicator to get a lot more precision and to make the liner stand out a bit more.
L’Occitane Lip Balm. I think this exact lip balm was a limited edition but I use pretty much any L’Occitane Lip Balm before putting on any other lip product to hydrate my lips.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream. Colour: Zurich. I’ve been using this for almost a year now and still get compliments and people asking me what lip colour I use. It’s creamy and doesn’t dry your lips at all but still stays on for a long time like a liquid lipstick.
L’Oréal Brow Artist Xpert. Colour: Brunette. This is just a simple but affordable brow pencil that I’ve found is just the right colour for me. I apply it in little line strokes to fill out the sprouts and tails of my brows.
MAC Brow Set. This looks kind of gross in the photo as it has taken on a bit of a brown tint from the brow pencil. Yum. It is originally a completely see-through gel and works like a clear mascara for your brows that holds any stray eyebrow hairs in place.
Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara. I love a big and fluffy mascara brush and this is by far my favourite. It separates your lashes and lifts them, too. None of that clumpy stuck together eyelash look.
MAC Prep & Prime transparent finishing powder. This is the last thing I use when I’ve finished putting on my makeup. I use a big brush to apply a very small amount of this transparent powder on my T-zone to stop my skin from looking too greasy. I always pop this in my handbag when I go to events or parties to stop the shine.
Et voilà! This is the kind of look I go for… I like natural but even-toned skin, a little definition from the eyeliner, filled in brows and a slightly pink lip.
